Introducing Dr Mona Sobhani
Meet the new contributor to the Brave New World of Psychedelic Science
Starting later this month, neuroscientist Dr Mona Sobhani will be taking over the reins of the Brave New World of Psychedelic Science for a while. Here’s her introduction in her own words:
I am a cognitive neuroscientist and author. I am just coming off the heels of a personal existential crisis that was precipitated by the killing of someone I knew, the ending of a romance, and a vague, all-encompassing sense of unfulfillment. Grasping my way out of crisis by seeking answers, I launched a two-year exploration into the mysteries of our universe, chasing questions like: Is the Universe meaningless? Why are we here? Along the way, I accidentally had a transpersonal spiritual awakening and my interests shifted from pure materialist science to the space where science and spirituality merge, coming to believe that consciousness is the common underlying thread. I wrote about this journey and my discoveries in my forthcoming book, Proof of Spiritual Phenomena: A Neuroscientist’s Discovery of the Ineffable Mysteries of the Universe, forthcoming in 2022. With this newsletter, I will continue to share my insights into how expanded states of awareness can heal us and the implications of valuing both scientific and experiential evidence. As altered states of consciousness therapies become more common in Western culture, issues from the convergence of neuroscience, psychiatry, psychology, spirituality, technology, and health, will emerge. We will explore those issues and more in the newsletter. My work has been featured in the New York Times, VOX, and other media outlets.
Dr Sobhani’s book, Proof of Spiritual Phenomena: A Neuroscientist's Discovery of the Ineffable Mysteries of the Universe will be released later this year by Inner Traditions. Her Web site is: http://monasobhaniphd.com/
